Parbon Desk:
The telecommunications regulatory body BTRC has completed a successful test to launch the facility of calling 1 to urgent assistance even if there is no SIM on mobile. For the first time in the country, the examination of the seamless telecommunication service was completed.
BTRC Senior Assistant Director (Media) Zakir Hossain Khan said on Wednesday that the examination of the service was successfully completed in the Bashundhara area. Basic or smartphone will be available during the time of disaster. Emergency support candidates will get this service using the emergency call feature on the handset. The BTRC will launch it only after the Ministry of Disaster Management and Relief has been directed to launch the service. He added that the general customers will get this service immediately after launching this service on the core network of mobile operators.
After one year of experimental activities, the emergency helpline-1 was launched in the immediate aftermath of the emergency. Calling this number from any phone (mobile or fixed line phone) provides various assistance including police, fire brigade and ambulance. That number is completely 'toll free'. As a result, citizens can avail this emergency service managed by Bangladesh Police at no cost.
